Understanding Sleep

Sleep is a naturally recurring state of mind and body characterized by altered consciousness, reduced sensory activity, and inhibition of muscular activity.

The Sleep Cycle

A typical sleep cycle consists of several stages:

  • Stage 1: Light sleep, transition between wakefulness and sleep
  • Stage 2: Deeper sleep, decreased heart rate and body temperature
  • Stage 3: Deep sleep, crucial for physical restoration
  • REM Sleep: Rapid Eye Movement sleep, important for mental restoration

Common Sleep Disorders
